Why I Started This Blog

Hi, my name is David and I've spent more hours than I care to remember sifting through poorly organised information about accounting on the internet.

Please raise your hand if, like me, you find most of the information about accounting available on the internet dense, dry and - well, boring.

I thought so. Feels good to get that off your chest doesn't it?

As a small business owner, you have enough on your plate without having to worry about all the ins and outs of business accounting, legal this, red tape that and all the other headaches that come with running your business.

When it comes down to it, accounting is about keeping track of your money. Without proper accounting systems in place, you cannot hope to run a business efficiently, and you might just find yourself coming unstuck financially if you don't have ready access to the relevant numbers (and know how to interpret them correctly).

In my internet travels I've read quite a few websites that try to answer some of the basic questions that anyone new to accounting is bound to ask. Things like:

• What exactly is accounting anyway?
• How do I do book keeping properly?
• What's the difference between assets and liabilities?
• How do I keep track of depreciation?
• What is a corporation?
• What does an audit do?

And many more questions besides.

The problem with a lot of websites

The difficulty I found with most of the websites that I found was they tried to teach beginners how to do accounting but used far too much technical jargon and didn't explain it properly.

What I want to do with this website is to demystify all of the technical mumbo jumbo that accountants tend to come out with and explain it in a way that is easily digestible by busy entrepreneurs who just don't have the time to site down with a book about accountancy and read around the subject in detail.

Busy business people are interested in getting the job done in the most efficient way possible so that they can get on with the main task at hand - making money.
